Underwater Treadmill Therapy
How Treatment Works
Once filled with warm water, the hydrotherapy unit allows canine patients to engage in reconstructive exercises in a controlled environment while a built-in water treatment and filtration system ensures sanitation and safety. We proudly use Hydro Physio equipment.
The underwater treadmill allows the body to engage in gentle exercise to build up muscles and strength and improve coordination and balance. The treatment helps relax muscles, reduces joint swelling and supports weak or painful body regions.
Key Benefits
- Improved range of motion and strength
- Muscle building with reduced joint stress
- Pain reduction and mobility improvement

Since 2500 BCE
When Treatment is Recommended
Underwater treadmill programs are specifically designed to support canine
patients suffering from acute or chronic joint and muscular conditions.
Orthopaedic Pathologies
- Hip and elbow dysplasia
- Knee injuries (cranial cruciate ligaments disease)
- Medial patellar luxation
- Joints OCD, Achilles tendon issues
Neurological Pathologies
- Degenerative neurological disorders
- IVDD, lumbosacral disease
- Degenerative myelopathy
- Spinal and peripheral nerve injuries
Chronic & Special Needs
- Management of pain and decreased mobility
- Management of cancer related pain
- Weight management programs
- Behavioral issues

Why Underwater Treadmill Works
Buoyancy Effect
Water supports 63% of body weight, reducing joint stress while allowing full range of motion exercises.
Hydrostatic Pressure
Water pressure reduces swelling and improves circulation for faster healing.
Viscous Resistance
Water provides 12-14x more resistance than air, building strength without impact.
Clinical Evidence
Studies show hydrotherapy can improve mobility scores by 40-60% in dogs with osteoarthritis. The combination of warm water (promoting vasodilation) and controlled exercise accelerates healing while minimizing discomfort.
View ProcessProven Results
- 68% reduction in lameness scores (University of Tennessee study)
- 42% faster recovery post-TPLO surgery compared to land-based rehab
- 75% of senior dogs show improved mobility upon completion treatment plan
